Why does Kits for Independence exist?
Kits for Independence came about because of "one of those weeks".
We've all had them. For me, I had multiple crying moms in the same week. They were in tears because they were frustrated and even embarrassed because their child was still wearing a diaper, and because they "should have already" been able to toilet train them. Once again, I went on a search for toilet training supports that I could give them- something real and tangible, something where all the things I believed actually worked were included. What I wanted didn't exist. So I laid in bed that night and created it in my head. Then I went to work creating it and I put it into a kit. I needed it to be convenient and universally helpful. The parents, teachers, and students I worked with benefited from it, and even loved it. I started with the Toilet Training Kits, then came the Breakthrough Reward Board. But what about all the parents and teachers that don't have easy access? That's when the website came about - so that someone on a rural backroad, or another frustrated parent or teacher, could find real tools, and it would all be put together in a convenient kit.
It's been a fulfilling passion project for me. I believe we are all in this life together, and I hope, together, that we can help make someone else's day easier.
